This guest had 2 prevoius laminectomies and got better for a short time after each one, then got much worse due to ongoing scoliosis collapse w restenosis.
Got excellent 4 level revision decompression w correction and stabilization of the deformity which will help prevent recurrance.
Tomorrow she will stand up and walk better.
Will spend 2-4 nights in hospital.

How can we care for scoliosis and kyphosis and spondylolisthesis better with conservative care like physical therapy, high-tech scoliosis braces, exercise and other techniques? What can be done to improve surgical care, and understand choices for surgery, learning from those around the world? How can we learn from aviation and from Deming's principles of "Standard Work" to constantly improve spine and all healthcare?

This patient is my Mom, and living in CA has made this process difficult for my wife and me. Dr. Hey is not only savvy enough to put the before and after x-rays on his site (which made me feel much more connected) he took the time to explain to me what I was looking at over the phone. How he is able to have such a close, personal connection with folks is amazing. I'm tearing up just thinking about what he just did for me and how kind it was. Dr. Hey isn't my doctor, but should I ever need his services, I will fly to NC from CA to have him take care of me. This guy is awesome. I'm just floored by his taking the time to speak with me, he really cares about his patients and their families, without a doubt. All I can say is it looks like he did an amazing job and my Mom will get her quality of life back - she has been in so much pain and for so long, she could hardly do anything at all. She'll have a new grand baby to come see soon, and now she can! Thanks for making that all possible, Dr. Hey!!
