Yesterday's Scoliosis Surgery

Yesterday we helped a gentleman from New Bern, NC who had severe collapsing lumbar scoliosis with flat back syndrome and severe multilevel stenosis.
I performed an L1-Iliac wing reconstruction with multilevel laminectomy.
Surgery time was approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
He is doing well postoperatively!
He has a daughter in California who wanted to get an update and see the pictures -- so sorry for the delay!

Hi - I'm the daughter who lives in CA and wanted to express my profound thanks for the care being given to my Dad by the nurses, aides, clinic staff and Dr. Hey. We are very hopeful that this procedure will reduce his significant pain and allow him to stand more erect and have better mobility.

We live in Tiburon, CA (San Francisco Bay area) and it's difficult being so far away when he's having surgery and in the hospital. I really appreciate this blog, your prompt responses to my e-mails, and your offer to connect via Skype. It's rare to have a surgeon (or a plumber, or a photographer, or ...) who is so communicative and responsive and it makes this time easier for all of us.

My husband and I have 3 young children (8, 7 and 5) and they all join us in sending healing hugs and kisses to granddad. Feel better soon, Dad! And do your physical therapy!

Love,

Nancy
