Adolescent scoliosis "double header" Monday with brother and sister from Virginia

Every week at Hey Clinic has it’s wonderful bright spots.
This week had several, including this wonderful family from Virginia.
The dad had contacted me a 3 weeks ago about scoliosis surgery second opinion for his two teen-age children, both of which had 70 degree severe scoliosis.  He emailed me the X-Rays and we did a phone conference.
We saw them for second opinion a week or so ago, and were able to arrange our schedule to accommodate their family’s schedule.
We actually did the daughter’s surgery in the morning (girls go first!), and then did her brother’s surgery in the afternoon.
They both did great, and loved the nurses and therapists and others on the orthopaedic unit.
Our nurse manager arranged for them to have 2 adjoining private rooms, both of which had an extra bed, so mom could stay with the daughter, and dad could stay with the son!
Terry, one of our nurses did their discharge planning and sent them home to Virginia.
They spent 3 nights in the hospital, and both did great, with excellent corrections, and excellent improvement in their height.
No blood transfusions were required and their surgeries took around 3 and 3 and a half hours repectively.
As the mom was leaving, she wanted all the nurses and other caregivers to know at Dukr Raleigh Hospital and Hey Clinic that they had a “wonderful experience.”

That’s what it is all about!
